Did You Know?
Here we discuss several misconceptions that non-members have about the JRTCA.
Did you know that your terriers do not have to be registered/recorded to participate in a sanctioned trial?
- You must be a JRTCA member to participate in a sanctioned event (To Join).
- Your terrier must meet the height qualifications which is 10-15 inches (How to measure your terrier).
- Exception: Your terrier must be registered/recorded to particpate in the JRTCA National trial.
- There are also non-sanctioned events that your terrier can participate in (i.e., see video below to see the brush hunt, tunnel vision and lure coursing events).
Did you know that you can "record" your spay/neutered terrier with the JRTCA?
- Rescue dogs are welcome even if the parents and/or birth date are unknown.
- Recording your spayed/neutered terrier is a very simple process.
- The recording fee is only $15 which is the club's minimum cost for the administration of the recording.
- Exception: terriers that are under 10" or over 15" are ineligible for recording (How to measure your terrier).
- Spay/neutered terriers may compete at a sanctioned terrier trial in Miscellaneous Conformation classes (as well as racing, agility, GTG, obedience, super earth and other exciting events).

Did you know that you do not have to hunt/work your terriers to belong to the JRTCA?
- The club welcomes pet owners that agree with our mission of preserving this breed of terrier.
- If you are interested in working your terrier, you will have access to JRTCA sanctioned judges.
- There are many activities available to pet owners or members who do not hunt.
- Sanctioned trial events like Agility, Obedience, Racing, Trailing and Locating, Youth, Go To Ground, Conformation
- Non-sanctioned trial events like Lure Coursing, Tunnel Vision and Brush Hunt
- Training Seminars/Workshops
Did you know that the JRTCA includes members that are located all over the world?
- Although a majority of the members in the JRTCA are located in the United States, we do have members in many other countries like Japan, Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Mexico, etc.
Did you know that the "Jack Russell Terrier" is different from the "Parson Russell" and the "Russell Terrier"?
- The Russell Terrier (10" to 12" in height) and the Parson Russell Terrier (12" to 14") are both variants of the Jack Russell Terrier (10" to 15") made into separate breeds by the AKC (American Kennel Club).
- The JRTCA considers the Jack Russell Terrier to be the REAL Jack Russell Terrier.
- The Jack Russell, Parson Russell and Russell Terrier each has its own breed standard.
- Jack Russell Terrier Breed Standard (JRTCA registry since 1976)
- Parson Russell Terrier Breed Standard (AKC recognition in 1997)
- Russell Terrier Breed Standard (AKC recognition in 2012)
- The JRTCA is the oldest and largest breed club for the original Jack Russell Terrier. The JRTCA is affiliated to the Jack Russell Club of Great Britain (JRTCGB), the breed club for the Jack Russell Terrier in England, its country of origin. Both clubs have always been, and remain, adamantly opposed to all-breed/kennel club registration of the Jack Russell Terrier (Why do we oppose kennel club recognition?)
Did you know that there are local affiliate clubs located across the United States?
- The purpose of the local clubs is to provide activities for Jack Russell Terrier enthusiasts within a local geographic area. They organize Fun Days, offer educational opportunities and host JRTCA sanctioned trials.
- They share the JRTCA's goals and objectives for the Jack Russell Terrier.
- Please contact these groups if you are interested in local terrier activities (fun days, sanctioned trials) in your area.
